Ghana is safe and sound – President assures

Accra, Jan. 17, GNA – President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Ghanaians of their safety and security, stating that, his administration had made it its top priority to protect the nation from the scourge of terrorism.

He said government had put in place measures to ensure that national security is not compromised, and that threats to the peace would be dealt with decisively.

Presicdent Akufo-Addo gave the assurance at an encounter with the media on Wednesday at the Flagstaff House to mark his first year in office.

He used the occasion to enumerate the various policies and intervention employed by his administration to further his agenda to leap-frog Ghana into an era of development, progress and prosperity.

The President, in a reaction to the recent arrest in Accra of three suspects with explosives, told the media that the security agencies had scaled up their alertness, and “we are not letting our guards down”.

“Ghana is safe and sound…and we would ensure that, that reality is maintained,” the President stated, adding that, the security agencies would be adequately resourced to handle any emerging threat to the security of the country.

On the vexed issue of the menace of Fulani herdsmen across the country, President Akufo-Addo said a comprehensive policy was being devised to deal with the emerging threat.

“There are measures being taken to contain the situation,” he said, adding, “we can’t overlook the behaviour of the herdsmen and we are finding means for them to abide by the law and rules of our country.”

He said government would not depend on the law enforcement aspect only, but find a comprehensive solution to the problem.
