The Patriotic Ladies Club, USA Chapter on Sunday, 24th February, 2019, visited the Community for Creative Non-Violence (CCNV) Homeless Shelter in Washington D.C., USA.
The donation was made possible by voluntary contributions in cash and kind by members to gather items ranging from winter coats and jackets, sweaters, socks, blankets, gloves and many other essentials that help to keep people warm during the winter season.
Many homeless shelters across North America get crowded during the winter season, making it difficult for shelter operators to meet the needs of the people who visit such places to seek refuge.
Thus, the PLC (USA Chapter), was compelled to reach out to the home through a donation to augment efforts of the operators to keep shelter seekers warm and ensure lack of exposure to diseases such as pneumonia.
Bernard Williams, a representative of the home who received the items on behalf of the shelter, expressed appreciation to members of the club at the gesture, stating “the winter season exposes needy peoples’ vulnerability to dangers on the street. Donations like this go a long way to cushion us to reach out to more people who would have been turned away due to lack of logistics”.
Coordinator of the club, Jemima Hagan, who led the delegation to the shelter reiterated the mission of the club which is hinged on making efforts to support the vulnerable in society and empower the marginalized to reach their full potentials.
