NPP New York Chapter @ 33
May 31, 2025Official Rejoinder: Clarification on Unauthorized Statement Attributed to the NPP-USA Branch
T he attention of the New Patriotic Party – USA Branch (NPP-USA Branch) has been drawn to a statement dated May 26, 2025, issued under the banner of Team Ken USA – North America, which purports to speak on behalf of a so-called "NPP USA Chapter" in response to comments made by Mr. James Owusu, First Vice Chairman of the NPP-USA Branch.
We wish to issue this rejoinder to address key inaccuracies, reaffirm our official communication structures, and reinforce our collective commitment to party unity and constitutional compliance.
1. The NPP-USA Branch is the Sole Recognized Entity
There is no such body as the “NPP USA Chapter.” The constitutionally recognized and duly chartered body representing the New Patriotic Party in the United States is the NPP-USA Branch. All official communications or positions must emanate from the Branch’s elected leadership or its authorized Communications Directorate. Any other claim of representation is inaccurate and should not be treated as official.
2. Unauthorized Use of Party Identity
The publication issued by Team Ken USA – North America was not authorized by the NPP-USA Branch and should not be misconstrued as representing its official position. No formal process was followed in its issuance, and it did not receive endorsement or approval from the Branch's leadership.
3. Clarifying the Context of Mr. James Owusu’s Remarks
Mr. James Owusu’s comments—now being taken out of context—were delivered on February 15, 2025, during an official NPP-USA delegation visit to Harvard University at the invitation of former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. His remarks acknowledged Dr. Bawumia’s contributions to Ghana’s development and expressed appreciation for his leadership in public service.
It is important to emphasize that these remarks were made during a non-partisan, academic engagement—not a campaign event. They were neither an endorsement nor an indication of preference in the party’s presidential primaries, for which nominations had not yet opened at the time. Any attempt to selectively quote or reframe those remarks as a formal endorsement is misleading and intellectually disingenuous.
The NPP-USA Branch remains firmly committed to strict neutrality in all internal party contests, in full compliance with directives from the national party and our internal processes. As such, we do not endorse or oppose any aspirant during primaries. We also reiterate that campaigning or promotion of any candidate on Branch-sanctioned platforms is strictly prohibited, and we urge all members to observe this directive with utmost discipline and respect for due process.
4. Commitment to Democratic Engagement and Due Process
We encourage all members and advocacy groups to express themselves within the bounds of party discipline and respect for institutional structures. The NPP-USA Branch remains guided by principles of openness, fairness, and internal democracy, and we caution against any unauthorized publications that could mislead the public or misrepresent our internal dynamics.
5. Final Clarification and Appeal
We respectfully urge the general public, the media, and party members to disregard the May 26 publication as non-official. The NPP-USA Branch has not issued any formal statement regarding any aspirant in the party’s upcoming presidential primaries.
We reaffirm our unwavering commitment to neutrality, transparency, and inclusiveness in the internal election process and remain focused on promoting the best interests of the New Patriotic Party and the Republic of Ghana.
Signed
